Who We Are

Operation Reform is a bipartisan summit on criminal justice reform and reentry solutions; an action-oriented gathering of practitioners, employers, national media, and government officials from local, state, tribal and federal offices who share in the responsibility of reducing recidivism through employment-based solutions.

Led by Operation New Hope, #cut50, and Ford Foundation, our mission is to turn growing national conversations around criminal justice reform into bipartisan solutions for reducing mass incarceration.

“America is the land of the second chance and when the gates of the prison open, the path ahead should lead to a better life.”

–President George W. Bush

“While people in our prisons made mistakes – sometimes big mistakes – they are also Americans. We have to ensure as they do their time and pay back their debt to society we are increasing the possibility they can turn their lives around.”

–President Barack Obama

“There are currently 2.2 million Americans in jail. If the U.S. incarcerated its citizens at the same low rate as Norway we could save more than $45 billion a year — and a whole lot of human suffering. We should be investing in education and jobs, not more jails.”

–Sen. Bernie Sanders

“I’ve long believed there needed to be reform of our criminal justice system. We’ve got a lot of people in prison, frankly, that don’t really in my view need to be there.”

–Rep. John Boehner

“America’s criminal justice system is badly in need of reform. For too long our justice system has reinforced our country’s cruel history of racism and economic inequality — remaining disconnected from our founding ideals of life, liberty, and equal treatment under the law.”

–Gov. Martin O’Malley

“Now is the time for criminal justice reform.”

–Rep. Jim Sesenbrenner

“Without the mass incarceration that we currently practice, million fewer people would be living in poverty. And it’s not just families trying to stay afloat with one parent behind bars. Of the 600,000prisoners who re-enter society each year, roughly 60 percent face long-term unemployment.”

–Sec. Hillary Clinton

“Real justice in America has got to include restorative justice.”

–Gov. Jeb Bush

“I have an issue with the court and prison system, about how we treat nonviolent drug addicts. His punishment is too harsh. I want to get involved in working out reforms. I know a lot about it now. Cameron got the most severe sentence in the history of the US penal system. It’s just unrealistic. My son deserved to get arrested, but not to be harshly punished for obtaining drugs in prison.”

–Michael Douglas

“By reducing recidivism, correctional education ultimately saves taxpayers money & creates safer communities.”

–Rep Donna F. Edwards
